Driving conditions on roadways can be improved using an asphalt mix developed and manufactured by Paramo.Pardubice, 25. 11. 2011 – Cement modified with ground rubber from worn ties, used to reducw noise on roads, is already performing this function on K Barrandovu Street in Prague.
The reduction of noise emissions from transport has come to the forefront, above all, in urbanised locations, the result of increased pressure from society for cleaner surroundings and a better quality environment.
According to Martin Málek, Asphalt Sales Department Manager at Parama, there are two ways to cut back on road noise. On the one hand by building sound-protection walls or tunnels and on the other by reducing the actual noise produced itself. A considerable percentage of noise can be attributed to contact with tyres and the roadway. It's therefore possible to reduce transport speed, use low-noise emitting tyres or build roadways with reduced noise emission. It is this last option which has proven to be the most effective. "Although the construction of such roadways would mean increased financial costs and current experience hasn't entirely met the expectations of investors, I am still optimistic on the course to take" ,says Martin Málek, adding: "Construction companies are fast learners. Their expert teams are working on improving the formula and investors, in this case the ŘSD (Czech Board for Roads and Highways), together with town magistrates, see this as the most economical and viable option. Hopefully drivers will soon be passing through Pardubice more quietly".
For the time being there is a narrow, albeit developing market for modified asphalt cement with sound protection features. As revealed by the Director for Asphalt Development at Paramo, Jiří Plitz, porous layers with ground rubber have attained a noise reduction of between 8 and 10 db (A). This reduction would amount to an equivalent of 90% fewer cars on the road. Even Czech roads can be noise-free. The new asphalt mix offered by Parama is offering solutions!
